Short-term respite is a type of support that allows NDIS participants to take a break from their usual routines while trying new experiences in a supported environment. It can also give families and carers time to rest, while knowing the person they care for is safe and supported.
Respite and short-term support is suitable for NDIS participants who would benefit from a change of routine, time away from home, or new social experiences. It can also support families and carers by providing a planned break from caring responsibilities.
VMCH offers short-term respite stays, weekends away, and short getaways. These experiences are planned around individual interests and goals and may include overnight stays, travel, or community-based activities.
24 Active Support is an option for participants who need additional awake assistance during overnight stays, weekends away, or short-term respite. A support worker remains available overnight to provide reassurance and supervision, helping participants feel safe and settled.
Respite support is typically delivered on a one-to-one basis, or one-to-two where appropriate. This ensures personalised support and a safe, comfortable experience.
No. VMCH does not provide medical care, (unless nursing services are engaged), or personal care such as showering or personal hygiene. Our respite and 24 Active Support services focus on supported experiences, participation, and safety.
Respite and short-term support may be funded under NDIS categories such as Assistance with Daily Life or Short Term Accommodation or Respite, depending on individual plans and circumstances. Our team can help explain how your funding applies.
Respite experiences may take place at accommodation venues, during planned trips, or out in the community. Locations are discussed during planning to ensure they align with individual needs and preferences.
You can request a callback or speak with our friendly team (1300 698 624) to discuss your goals, funding, and the types of respite options available.
